I'm really on the fence about doing IRS in my '85. I already have a MM torque arm and panhard bar setup in the car, but I also have an 03 IRS and Full Tilt Boogie bushing kit from my donor car. I dont plan to race the car much, so I'm leaning towards the IRS...

I don't have an IRS, but I would go with that if you have both options. Especially since it came with your donor car and has the FTB bushing kit, I would if I had one. Even though it might make it slightly worse on a drag strip, it will make it handle better in any other situation, plus the IRS exhaust looks cooler.

The cost of "bulletproofing" the IRS is my biggest concern, next after that is the adding track width and wheel fitment issues. I use my car on the street more than anything, so the IRS has me interested.

Yea, just the half shafts alone are a pretty hefty cost, but if you're planning to keep it relatively stock you should be alright for a little while, especially since you say you don't plan to see the track too much, that's usually where things break.

I love my IRS. The FTB kit eliminates the hop, which also helps keep from tearing up shafts. It is great on the autocross side. Not quite as much on the drag side. On the street, the driving experience is much more refined.

I know it's been awhile.. but hopefully the OP can chime in whether or not he was able to use a stock fox length driveshaft and just swap out the rear pinion flange.

I'm using a t5 with the stock 5.0.

Should be able to use the stock fox shaft then, the pinion flange are the same on the newer rears as far as I know. I have a 2003 SRA, but IRS should be the same. The t56 is the only thing that is different.
