Sorry this is going soooooo slow. I finally got a steering column boot! Just realized how hard it is to find a nice column boot. With that said, be sure to pull you column boot loose from the firewall before lowering you column down.....my bad :blackeye:. I'll add some pics as soon as I figure out how to do it now. Says my file is too big to upload now.

Just looking at my last post and cringing... So other than purchasing parts and getting my supercharger kit completed, I have sadly done nothing with my car. Smh! On top of that, I’m considering selling my 4.6 cobra engine, supercharger kit, and all my swap goodies to finance a Coyote swap. I’ll make a final decision by next weekend and either start selling off parts or start modding my k-member to put my 4.6 engine in.

Just a quick teaser. I planned on digging all my parts out just to do a quick inventory of what I have and what I’ll need. I stopped doing that shortly after digging out the k member and decided I’ll put the car on my hoist tomorrow and get the k member fabbed up. The motor still needs seals for the valve covers and timing cover, but I couldn’t help myself, I had to get a glimpse of what it’s going to look like :).

what orange did you use? Nicely done...!
Thank you! It’s a custom Chip Foose paint color. I got it at a local paint supply shop. Orange amber pearl is the name. It’s like a candy color, very transparent, but that’s what gives it so much depth.

I am simply documenting my modifications and maybe helping someone else by doing so. That being said, I have my budget K-member nearly complete. This is what I did. I used a stock 4.6 Mustang K-member. I took measurements of the back tab and measuring on the inside of the rear tab I found the length was approximately 3” on my stock 1979 302 K-member and 3 1/2 inches on the 4.6 K-member. Knowing now that I need to take 1/2 inch out of the back tab. The easy thing to do is just slot the holes and cut 1/2 inch off the back, however, that’s not how I like to do things. I want it to look stock after my alterations. Before making any mods I took note that my stock K-member (black K-member) has slots that go side to side on the rear tab and the 4.6 rear tab is slotted front to back. I took measurements and decided to measure 1/2 inch forward (towards what would be the front of the car if installed) from each hole and made a line. From that line I measured back and made marks at 1 inch and 1 1/2 inches. Once all my measurements were made I used a die grinder to slot the holes forward approximately 3/8 inch. I then used a cutoff wheel and removed the center section. After tack welding the rear portion back on, I installed it to check fitment. Once I was happy with the fitment, I finished welding and slotting the holes as needed. All that’s left is to paint the K-member. I’ll add pictures of the final product after I finish touching up the weld in 1 spot and re grinding the area flat.

I like the clip and weld approach. The last one I did was just trimmed and slotted. Yours looks very nice.

Thanks Bill! There’s nothing at all wrong with trimming the end off, I wanted it to appear stock. I’m thinking about opening a window up on both sides of the k-member as well to add more access to the engine. These k-members are so over built, not to mention the stock 5.0 k-members have a small window from the factory. Haven’t 100% decided on that yet....gotta see if I’ll really gain anything from opening it up first.

So I have been working on the Fox here and there. This is my k-member after I got it back from the local powder coating shop (Tammi’s Custom Coating).

So I’ve accomplished quite a bit lately and will catch you all up. But first I have a question. I have a 2001 Cobra computer with the PATS removed. I have a Dunne-Rite harness (new) with no instructions. I’m pretty sure I have all the wiring figured out. What I’m not sure on is, do I have to have a Fuel Pump Delivery Module hooked up or can I leave that plug disconnected. I’m not sure if the computer needs to see the FPDM or not. I still have my fuel pump relay connected in the car from the old setup. I’m hoping to just run that verses running the FPDM.

If anyone on here has the Dunne-Rite instructions, I’d happily accept them. But I do believe I have it figured out. Unlike the older Fox computer, the 99-04 computers do not control the fuel pump. Without going into a bunch of detail, since I’m running return style fuel system and my Fox fuel relay and wiring is in place, I can use the fuel relay separate from the computer and the newer computer doesn’t care! Winner winner! No Fuel pump driver module for this guy .

Here’s where I’m at so far. I changed my front cover to the 98 Cobra cover (3 bolt tensioner) re powder coated it to match the intake. Did a wrinkle finish on the valve covers, installed new timing chains and replaced the plastic tensioners with cast iron ones. Did a wrinkle finish on the supercharger bracket. Took out old wiring that wasn’t needed from the older EFI setup. Swapping steering columns...replacing the 79 with an 86 column to run my SVO steering wheel. Way easier than I thought it would be! Welded a fitting into the oil pan for the supercharger oil return line. Installing Dunne-Rite harness and control pack. Ordered a boat load of parts....no spoilers LoL. I’ll add pics as soon as I can. I can’t seem to add any as they’re “too large for the server to handle” .

I’m using a harness from Ron Francis. Have to wait like 3 more weeks before I get it though. Are you up loading pics from your phone or via computer? I’ve noticed it works better via computer. Nice progress. I’m currently waiting on some things to finish my 4v into my 79 cobra.

Thank you! It’s been awhile since I’ve made this much progress. I was attempting to download rom my phone. Now that you mention it, I had to load pictures from my computer last time. Actually, I believe I have the harness figured out now. Took some time but I’ll label them and post pictures in case anyone else runs into my issue.

Sounds like you and I have a mutual friend named jay kurth. He was over today doing s little frame repair on my car. Small world

Yes we do! He told me you’d like to check out the 79 some time, I’m all for it when we both have time. I’d like to check out the Cobra too. Considering where it’s at, at the moment, shouldn’t be too hard lol.

Yea she sure isn’t going anywhere at the moment. I’m planning on having it running and driving in roughly 6-8 weeks though. Major hurdle is this frame repair. Then it will be fuel system and headed fitment. Oh man that’s so awesome to have someone local doing the same thing. I love the early cars we have 3 79s. I would absolutely love to come check out your car. It’s beautiful, someday I’ll have mine looking that nice. But right now it’s jisf my autocross toy

I’ll get with Jay so we can hookup. Just curious, what are you doing to send a speed signal to your computer? I’m running an 01 Cobra harness and computer with a built t5 trans (not stock). I have a VSS, but it won’t work for the 01 computer due to the differences in VSS and OSS. I believe the 01 has a 12 tooth reluctor when which should put out something like 32000 ppm, where the older VSS puts out 8000 ppm (pulses per mile). On one hand my speedometer will work, but the computer needs that signal. I’m not sure if a speed calibrator will work. I have an SCT tuner, just not sure if I can throw enough adjustment in there to make up the difference between VSS and OSS.
