1988 FORD MUSTANG LX
ATT00088.jpg

Back in August 2008, The project started to come together when our generous members donated $1500 dollars for an 1988 LX. The car was missing the engine and transmission, however is was loaded with many extras to include:
  • UPR Rear Suspension
  • Full Roll Cage
  • Tubular K Member
  • Tubular A Arms
  • Drag Shocks
  • Subframe Connectors
  • Aeromotive 1000 Fuel Pump
  • Aeromotive Fuel Pressure Regulator

Our next adventure was to find an engine for the project car. An unfortunate meeting between a tree and a 1995 MK VIII provided us a donor engine and transmission. After cutting away the damage, the wiring harnesses, computer, engine, and transmission were removed from the donor car.

To add some style, the local junkyard provided an intake from a 1997 Lincoln LSC

We had the intention to use a hydrabooster braking system from a 2002 Mustang GT but, with all the plumbing issues and such a close fit with the new 4.6 we decided to canx the whole hydrobooster setup and go with Maximum Motorsports Manual Brake Conversion Kit:

The project is now in the mock-up stage and we predict completion in June 2009.

With our motor In and trying to fabricate the K-member that came with the car and the installation of the JBA headers we were having all sorts of installation/alignment issues. We called on the support of Suspension Specialist Mr. Anthony Jones owner of AJE Racing and ask for his assistance.

Mr. Jones went beyond our expectation and donated a complete front suspension to our Race Car.

With the help and donations of members we have our Power Switch Panel and Installation Harness.

Instead of going thru the hassle of going thru all the wiring we decided to leave the work to the pro's and ordered a kit from The Detail Zone

All We are getting very close to starting our Race Car:rock:

Special Thanks to vanqsh_1507 who let us buy some parts off of him for a very good deal.....

We were installing the 97 Lincoln Intake but, we could not pass up the deal. Van sold us the 96 Cobra upper/lower intake and all tubing.. Fits like a glove:)

Coming along!!! & I dont see a reservoir! ;D after 8 years of not running the conventional modular reservoir, I am finally seeing coolant overflow/filling/thermostat problems...this weekend i installed the stock modular reservoir to relieve my loss of coolant and thermostat problems i was having when boiling over before the thermostat opens...

I used the 03 mach rod...96 rod style is now obsolete...but then again the 03 mach rod is much easier to install...

will be switching to a modular fan as well later...

And like to say thanks to everyone who worked hard to get Project WickedFox on the Dyno. We had alot of issue but, they were work out and we got to get a pass on the dyno. The car is tuned conservative so we can have fun with it at the Track. And the new motor is off getting worked on..

The corrected numbers for our RACE CAR are
285 rwhp / 325 rwtq

The numbers are dead even with the minor mods we have so that is a plus.

Videos and Pictures are coming soon....

The car looks very nice. I'll check out that other link showing progress, later. Just wanted to say good job. I just got myself a project '89 Mustang, which was an old drag car. I'll likely be turning it back into a street car, and I was contemplating a swap to a 4.6 4-valve, and your experience will help me decide whether or not to go with that idea.

Back at my swap again. The 99 gt gas tank fit except the down spout to fil it up. I had to rip the plastic housing out.The lid closes but I have to pull it back before closing door. I will later on take it back out and cut it shorter. This is a convertable car so a hatchback maybe different. I dont know what you call the big round thing that goes to the return gas line but it just fit beside the gas tank. Had to cut one hole in the trunk drivers side for the wirring to go to gas return tank. The other fit in the factory hole for fuel pump. I also took the gas lines from the 99 and put them on the 92 . Fit nice but had to cut into the side fenderwell to get the lines through. Had to drill the rivits out of the support braket on the passanger side to run the 2 fuel lines also. On thing i did in this swap was use the entire 99 gt wirring harness so it makes it easy. Tonight i put the entire 99 gt front suspension under the car, fit nice except for the rear holes. I took a 1/2 '' drill bit made 4 holes towards front of car then took the sawsall made the cut and it fit perfect. Of course I had a lift to do this. Makes it nicer to work around. Reused the 92 struts and springs with one coil cut. Before I put the engne in it I put the hydroboost brake clylinder in plus the throttle cable which you have to drill one extra hole and the clutch cable again drill a extra hole. Note that I am using the 99 pedals and dash. The heater box basically fit in but the brakets need modified a little. For the wirring harness from the 99 gt on the drivers side i had to cut a bigger oval hole in the firewall. The clutch pedals bolted up without and problems. Other than this i will keep you all updated. Good night
