Well I decided to buy a 2003 Mustang Donor car for the next swap after my Mark VIII motor decided that it did not like the heat last summer without the fan working. I swapped over the full harness from front to rear bumper, full brake lines including ABS, and the whole fuel system and tank.

Here is the progress.

Picked up this wrecked 2003 Mustang GT

Stripped it down to this. Sold most was of the parts I didnt need to recoup the cost of the car. After all sold, Everything I swapped over to the 86 cost me Nothing!$$$

Motor out of the 03

Yanked out the old power plant. Spun a bearing last summer and something just was not right with this motor. I had also swapped all of the mark viii harness and computer into the fox, so it was a mess.

Once the old motor was out, it was time to work on the interior and dash swap.

Cleaned everything up so I could start cutting out the firewall to get in the steering side and the ac side. Wanted to do it right this time. The last setup I "Made it work". Lol!

The dash swap involved a lot of in and out. first with the metal part of the dash, then with the main part. Had to trim about 3 Inches from the top, but not much from the sides, just a bit off of the sides that would normally be covered by the rubber moldings on the 03.

Sprayed the floor with a rubberized undercoating

IMG_20180126_174739.jpg

Used the carpet from the 03. Fits with no problems. I will have to re work the rear seat delete, but otherwise no problems.

Headers bolted on, Wrinkle black paint on the ol valve covers, and some new valve cover gaskets.

Tokico Ilumina shocks and MM coilovers, 03 Spindles, PBR calipers, and brembo rotors.

Radiator and fan installed. Reservoir also mounted.

Motor all wrapped up, harness's tucked and wires for lights and windshild wiper motor adapted. All work great.
IMG_20180317_191527.jpg

Painted the radio and shifter Bezel's. Turned out pretty damn good!

IMG_20180218_133401.jpg

Interior done for now. At some point I will work on molding the door panels once I get power window motors and mounts.

Still need to install the torque arm, rear springs, and rear shocks. Also still want to install sn axles with ABS rings.

Your build sounded like a play by play of my build.

Right down to the carcass that remained of my the new edge. Except your carcass was more stripped than mine, haha you must have sold off the front subframe. Mine could still roll at least.

What did you do about the control arms? I kept everything from the new edge and it doesn't rub or anything. Need to get it aligned but not sure if i need to get front fox struts or if i need camber plates. I think the strut tower dimensions stayed the same on all chassis versions.

Oh, how did you do your front swaybar? I see you used the abs so you either cut the mount perches off or bent up a ton of new lines.

Here's my leftovers. My girl qt the time painted the alaska flag on the roof and i cut it off and made a wall hanger.

I am using the fox a arm's since I am don't want the wheels to stick out to far for now. I have kept the a arms to use later. I have a swaybar from an 88 gt so everything bolts right up. Only issue is the clearance between the swaybar and the AC compressor plug. Going to have to modify that.

The abs I did what you said, just bent the tabs and bolted it pretty close to where it would have been in the 03.

The flag is an awesome idea! Mine had a sunroof so that would not have worked

Yeah it looked so cool i wish my car was blue so i could drive one around like the alaska general lee, lmao.

I didn't like how much the wheels stuck out at first but it grew on me. But now im not sure what i might have to do about alignment. I guess im just going to take it to the place and see what they say. This is with new edge rear end and control arms/spindles

They really don't look like they stick out to far. Looks pretty good! The alignment might be fine. I would have done the rear axle, but I wanted to run wider wheels. If I do a non dished wheel I will do the axle.

Yeah. It almost looks like a road race setup. Much easier this way because i just want something cheap to bomb around in. Hasnt bumped or rubbed yet. And i guess i could get some 05+ rims and the backspacing evens back out. I think a lot of weirdness happens when guys try to stick a new edge axle in their otherwise stock fox. Then it looks mismatched.

I did. Did it all over the winter. Started in about October and pretty much finished it up last month.
