help PATs system...

SCT Flip chip here with a couple different tunes. There's not a lot of place that tune with deltaforce. It can disable pats with a click of a button unlike all the others. SCT and diablo need programmer or with SCT you can buy the pro-racer package that allows you to tune yourself

IMO, SCT has the best support and most tuners available. Its the best choice.

You can do the same when you upgrade to commando series, there is a guy fairly close here that uses delta force.

It alarms me to hear all the commotion about PATS. Is it a fear of the unknown? Well, let me inform you, PATS is far less complicated than the remote power door locks. PATS has no moving parts, nothing to wear out. PATS has been around for a long time, in millions of vehicles, it’s here to stay, and it’s one of the most reliable components in the vehicle. It doesn’t require a secret Masonic handshake to operate, or a big fob with loads of buttons, that if you lose or gets stolen, you are well & truly screwed.

If you are silly enough to have only one key for the car and you lose it, then you have a problem, its not just the pats keys, it’s the locks, because as these vehicles are over 10 years old, even if you had the chassis # from the donor car, ford only keeps the codes for 10 yrs. So you may be putting some new locks in the car.

If you cobble a bunch of parts together, and the system is compatible, then you have a small problem of having it programmed, (unless the parts don’t match, then you have a different problem, which you can’t blame on PATS .( it’s doing its job).

If we got rid of everything we didn’t truly understand or feared, some people would be running carburetors and have manual windows, clutch fans and ignition points and would you take the GEM, SJB or BCM modules out.

I can understand having to pay $30 bucks or so for a key, but some people will pay far more for a set of gold plated bull nuts to hang from the back of car just to blow in the wind, or a high dollar stereo which offers no power gains and often invites a theft…

In a way i kind of understand the fear of PATS, as when electronic ignition came out, i hated it, now i would be without it, hell; some people don’t even know what a set of points are. I felt similar about generators and alternators, and fuel injection.

I wanted to puke when fuel injection came out; i thought that only Porsches had fuel injection and you had to take it to a specialist shop every month for repairs, now almost anyone can work on the older systems.

Why do we need ABS or airbags, some people think if you know how to drive, you don’t need it, but does the OTHER driver know how to drive, or are they impaired? However when the moment arises; when and if you do need it, you are REALLY grateful.

I am unaware of any data or statistics that reveal how many thefts have been prevented solely because of the little flashing light in the dash referred to as the PATS light, but it is a deterrent, and it lowers your insurance rates.

I suppose when you devote enough time learning about a system or subsystem, it can be difficult to embrace new technology, however technology moves on, whether we like it or not, whether we understand it or not, we have what we have. Wait till you see how the new stereos are wired-up. Ever heard of an APIM or SDARS unit?

What are your opinions on Intelligent Access with push-button start? That’s a pretty cool PATS system.

I’m not trying to influence anyone to keep PATS or instill a need to get rid of it, all I’m saying is it is far too simple of a system to get riled up about or become opinionated.

Loads of people have pats in their cars and probably don’t even know (or care).

I thought this site was about helping each other out, bearing in mind, everyone is not on the same financial level, not everyone can afford a tuner, (or know what to do with it, myself included) so maybe if it is necessary, it would be cheaper to get the PATS keys programmed so some guys can get the cars on the road sooner.

i dont hear so much commotion about brakes or 5 lug conversion or A/C.

Bearing in mind, this is all written from an electrical point of view. I chose electronics because it is easier (and cleaner) for me to do than some of the other specialist jobs.

What I have a hard time understanding is the need for a book written chastising those that choose to disable a system they chose not to utilize. *shrug*

I didn’t mean to influence anybody one to embrace PATS, or turn it off, just not to fear it.

i figured if when somebody turned the key and it started, that would be way cool, if not Pats could be programmed if it needs to be just to get it running quickly, and after all the bugs were worked, they could tune it how they wanted.

I don’t have time for debates with a moderator on my opinions or contributions.

I’ll just take my tired old gray haired ass outa here, and go my own way. Feel free to block me from the site.

Good luck to all, have fun!

1. No one is asking you to leave.

2. Being a MOD has nothing to do with the comment I made as it was an observation.

3. Your age or the color of the hair on your ass has nothing to do with the price of tea in china or your contributions here.

4. Hate to see you go if you chose to but, if you do, I wish you the best of luck.

Yeah not sure why your thinking of leaving ?

No one here fears PATS as all. Most of us just think its a pain in the ass, therefore we disable it. I don't use the keys, radio, locks, or other certain parts of the "network". This causes it to go into theft mode and cause problems. Its was best just to disable it. Thieves don't hot wire cars anymore, the put you car on a flatbed (if that your concern)

None of the above was suppose to be taken as a person attack. Everyone has opinions of what is right and wrong.

PATS is not a bad thing, in fact it is a deterrent. There are concerns about PATS for loads of reasons when modifying these cars or doing a modular engine swap.

PATS does not affect the operation of the engine, it just prevents it from being utilized without the correct key.

For those guys using the stock fox steering columns you can always remove the transceiver key coil from the SN 95 steering column and locate it in a remote position under the dash if you like, however there is a proximity issue with the key to the coil/transceiver, which is easily overcome.

Of course there are programmers out there that can eliminate PATS altogether, but if your PCM dumps and you are miles away from home, this could cause an issue.

I think PATS is a pretty good system, i have spoken to many people in the past and tried to bypass the PATS system with no luck, but that’s ok, it proves that it works.

I know some people don’t want three keys to operate their cars, one for the FOX doors, one for the SN95 ignition switch, and one for the trunk.

when i did my first engine & dash swap in my 1980 Fairmont, i had loads of issues to overcome. I had to fit fuel injection to the car, fit a 5.o add a 93 dashboard, add a parking brake in the center console , had to modify/make the loom, add a 2000 Mustang frt suspension etc, it all came out ok.

Now i am getting ready doing the 4.6 swap, pats is the last thing on my mind, i actually want PATS. Then again i have other issues to overcome, trying to get the dash cut without destroying it, repairing the wiring loom, trying to get the wiring to fit, drilling more holes in the car, repairing the a/c etc.

I suppose what it boils down to is that everyone has issues about something, but truthfully PATS is passive, and doesn’t cause troubles so long as you have the key/s.

There are no moving parts to wear-out, usually the only issue arrives when the keys are not present or the transceiver ring breaks, however you will need an IDS tester from Ford to diagnose it if it ever goes wrong.

Unfortunately, i have no knowledge as how to delete it altogether, but i can diagnose & repair them if i have a code to work with.

As stated previous, i have tried various ways to bypass it, i know there are transceivers out there that will eliminate the key for the system, but i personally have not “deleted PATS from the PCM, but i feel it would be something nice to know how to do, i suppose it can be done with a high-end aftermarket programmer???

great education on PAT's. I wasn't fully aware of the setup due to not begining a mod conversion project yet. thanks!

PATS is a personal opinion with that being said if you encounter a problem a tuner can easily turn it off, but some tend to get a little excited ( me being one lol ).
