Best engines to use are the 96-98 with the beehive springs.

93-95 OBD1 with coilpacks

96 one year only ecm and IMRC's, OBD2 with coilpacks

97-98 OBD2 with COP.

I disagree. I think all of the Mark 8 engines are good choices. You can run COP on any 4V 4.6.

Granted all the Mark engines are good, but the 96-98 have the upgraded valve springs.

Yes, you can run COP on any 4v 4.6 with a valve cover and harness swap. You can even use the non COP ECM by wiring the coils in pairs, ei, waste spark just like the coil packs.

My driver is a modded 96 Mark VIII and I'm putting a 97 Mark engine into a 68 F100.

True. All I'm trying to say is, not having beehive springs wouldn't prevent me from running an engine.

Now you got me wondering if the 03/04 cobra heads or GT heads have beehive springs.

At my buddies shop today. Looking at his built LSX 427, I noticed that it did not have beehive springs. What's funny, Ls1's came from the factory with beehive springs lol.
