MT-82 transmission in a coyote swapped fox

Has anyone done this? What did you use for a shifter?! I have called many shops around the country and everyone just tries talking me out of the MT-82 I already own. I am not ready to give up...yet!

I have a picture of the original shift location in my ‘89 with the MT-82 trans in place. Towards the left of picture (front of car) you can see the actuator for transmission is almost under the hole. Most short shift kits are going to put the actual shifter well away from the hole in the fox. I don’t want to cut up my console if I don’t have to and would rather spend money on a different transmission (as last resort) than have the final product look...less than amazing.

Ok so my MT-82 trans is in...(still need to weld in my stifflers crossmember ). I have an AJE K-member and Moroso oil pan...problem is that my headers are hitting everything but the lottery!! Into my oil pan AND and K member/ motor mount...any suggestions before I cut my K member apart and try to do a motor plate!?!!

Hey Bill
Been a long build for me as I am not a mechanic by any means!! I haven’t logged in for a while but have been hard at work on my build.
The Mt-82 trans required a lot of work for me as I have the 03 interior so the shift bucket (center console) kinda drove where I had to come through the tunnel. I ended up cutting/welding the tunnel and buying the 6” short shifter from MGW. I cut out the original trans member brackets and welded in a Stifflers crossmember.
It’s been 8 years now and I have just finally road tested the car. Exhaust needs to be finished from the x-pipe but hoping to get that done soon before it goes to the paint shop. image.jpgB14E1621-853A-4571-9BCD-A9056F5D91C6.jpegimage.jpg

That is a sweet ride. When you get time, I would love to read more about your experience with putting in that tranny. Thanks for the pics.

Nice work man ! What headers are you running? I'm having a hard time finding fitments with long tubes for mt82 with aje k member.

I had a Moroso oil pan and a canton racing oil pan that I couldn’t get to fit without modification so ended up going with the stock one (got some $$ in pans to only find that the stock $99 was my best option). I have the cobra jet intake setup and needed to put a 3/4” k-member spacer to gain hood clearance but that didn’t change header clearance as it was only the k-Member that header hit. I don’t know if the newer style AJE k-member allows more space than the one I have. I just bought the coyote motor mounts for the 302/351 AJE k-member that I already had.
Started with an original stock 81 t-top notch and swapped the roof to an 89 body that I acquired from a guy building a drag car. It was a Clean coupe body roller, AJE tubular front end and beefy moser rear. I was going to do a 408 stroker with solid rear, but ended up with 03 terminator IRS and interior...then came the coyote which I couldn’t pass up (Drove from NH to VA For it but $6500 for a 8k mile 2015 coyote/mt-82 trans, NIB ford alternator, ac compressor, starter AND Included a new FRPP Wire harness ). No brainer as I had already saved for my 408 build and was ready to go!
